What’s your current position? 

Director

How long have you been in this position?

 2 Years

What would you say most motivates you to do what you do? 

Making a difference to client’s businesses and offering them the right solutions to enhance their business and bottom line.

What are you most excited or passionate about? 

I enjoy sports and competition as well as a good social event.  On the business side, I strive to keep my client’s happy.

Who are the people/mentors who deeply influenced who you are, what you believe in and what you’re committed to in your work and life? 

My parents always supported me 100% and gave me the best opportunities possible whether it was education or sports.

 

The McA Computer Services Journey

Tell us about your specific role and contributions to McA? What was the first thing you did when you started McA? Were there any surprises?

I started off as a support desk jockey and over the years moved into on-site training and consulting. At the moment I still consult and assist Johan with the day to day running of McA Computer Services.

What were the key relationships that mattered most? 

Johan Smith and I got on well from day one, and 14 years later we are directors together.  I feel we complement each other well when it comes to business and making decisions.

Tell us about some of the memorable characters in the McA journey, the ones that give the journey colour, or brought in drama, comedy, conflict, etc.?

When I started at McA I was taken under the wing of Garhard Otto. He taught me all there is to know about Pastel Partner and Xpress and how the database works. 

In terms of comedy and funny characters, Trevor McLachlan is right up there.  Luckily I haven’t experienced much conflict in the workplace over the last 14 years.

What has been the most rewarding in the journey so far?

The company’s founding Directors realised my potential and entrusted me with Directorship.

 

Reflections and Lessons

If you could start McA over again, would you do anything differently?  Why, and what would you do?

No, the founding Directors that started McA did an excellent job.

What have you learnt from the human capital you’ve worked with?

I’ve learnt many things from the daily interactions I have with the McA team. Their individual skills and strong areas of expertise have enhanced my business acumen.

What do you think you’ve taught them?

I would like to think I have taught them a sense of loyalty together with being calm when a crisis arises.

Do you view your contributions to McA as successful? 

I would definitely like to think so yes.

When you think of the future, what gives you a sense of hope? 

McA has a great offering and we are confident that we will enhance our existing and new customers’ businesses in the coming future in turn strengthening our partnerships and market share.
